Regions in Spain

The most popular regions for people purchasing property are the regions along the South and East Coast of the main land in regions such as Andalucia, Murcia, Valencian Community and Catlonia. Also popular are the Canary and Ballearic Islands.

There is a large selection of property to chose from in Spain which cater for all tastes and budgets. The more expensive properties are along the coast in area's such as Malaga in Andalucia, Valencia and Barcelona in Catalinia.

In general property in Spain is a lot cheaper than property in Ireland. When you take into account the weather and the relaxed Spanish lifestyle it is not hard to work out why so many people are purchasing property in Spain.

Things to be aware of are that you will need minimum 10-12% of the purchase price to cover expenses and taxes. You should be very careful to understand all terms, contracts etc and if you are an English speaker for example it is best to do your transactions through English speaking agents / lawyers. There are intial taxes to be paid and other taxes may apply on an annual basis. The tax system in Spain is complex so seek professional advice. The good thing is that tax rates in Spain are among the lowest in Europe.

Andalucia

Andalucia at the bottom of the Spanish mainland. There is so much to Andalucia and it is easy to see why it is so popular.

It has an extensive coastline with endless beaches and wild cliffs with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Mediterranean Sea on the other. It has with coastal areas such as Costa de la Luz (on atlantic ocean side), Costa de Sol, Costa Tropical and Costa de Almeria.

It is only a short journey from the tip of Andalucia to Morocco on the African main land accross the Strait of Gibraltar.

Andalucia has 8 Provinces. The most popular is Malaga which is on the Costa del Sol.

Situated half way up the East Coast of Spain. It has extensive costline with Costa Blance, Costa de Valencia and Costa del Azahar.

Situated in the Noth east of Spain and borders with France.

This is another of the most popular regions in Spain. It has extensive coastline with Coasta Brava, Costa Dorada, Costa Garraf and Costa del Maresme.

It is a very popular tourist destination not only for its coastline but also because of ski resorts on the Pyrenees Mountains.

Murica is in the South East of Spain.

It has a coastline which is popular all year round. This region is also famous for its fruit and vegetable production.

Balearic Islands

The Balearic Islands which are situated of the East coast of Spain.

With its hot summers and mild winters it is no suprise that these islands are major attractions for tourists young and old alike.

The islands are Surrounded by beaches, clear blue water and sandy coves. For those who want to get away from the beach and water the islands boasts fabulous inland scenery.

The Balearic Islands fall under the Palma de Mallorca Province.

The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Coast of the South West Coast of Spain near the tropic of Cancer.

The islands are another popular tourist location due to good weather all year round.

Madrid

Madrid is the Capital City of Spain. It is located right in the middle of Spain. It is surrounded by woodlands and the main attractions include San Lorenzo del Escorial and its Monastery Alcala de Heneras which is a world heritage site.

Galicia

This region is in the Eastern Corner of Spain just north of Portugal. There are a large number of beaches along its coastline and the more famous coastal areas are Rias Baixas and Rias Altas.

Located in the North West coast of Spain next to Galicia and Cantabria. It is a long Narrow region and its coastal area is known as Costa Verde.

Cantabria

This region is situated in the North of Spain betweeen the Basque Country and Asturias. It has great beaches and the coastline is known as the Costa de Cantabria.

The main city in this region is Santander.

Navarre

Navarre is an inland region in the north of Spain and borders with France. The region is most famous for its traditions and fiestas the most famous of which is the running of the bulls.

The biggest city in this region is Pamplona.

Castile and Leon

This is the largest region in Spain. Its spreads out from the centre going north to border provinces next to the Bay of Biscay and west to border with Portugal. Due to its size there are varied landscapes going from mountains to moors and plains.

This is one of the smallest regions in Spain. It is located in the north of Spain next to the Basque Country and Navarre which border on France. The region is famous for its wines which bear the regions name.

Aragon

This region is situated in the North of Spain and borders France. It is between the regions of Navarre and Catalonia. With the Pyrenees to the north this region has good ski resorts.
