West of Ireland

With lifestyle and family life becoming an increasing factor for people, the West of Ireland is becoming very popular for those who wish to avoid the built up city areas and high property prices in Dublin and surrounding areas.

The Western Development Commission (WDC) is a state body which promotes economic and social development in the Western Region - counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Galway, Roscommon, Mayo and Clare. It operates under the aegis of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

The WDC have developed a very useful website www.lookwest.ie which is packed with information from finding the right property to getting the right job. It's well laid out and is full of links where you can get any information that you require. If something is not there simply drop them an e-mail and they will get back to you with the information or point you in the right direction.

The aim of WDC is to:

1. Highlight the advantages of living, working and doing business in the West

2. Provide a point of access to information for those considering a move West

The eight county and city councils in the West have been active partners with the WDC in building lookwest.ie. Each has committed resources to ensuring that the website's links for their towns are relevant and complete.

Twenty six towns across the region are already linked to lookwest.ie. Others will follow shortly.
